INUIT YOUTH VOICES

Youth rights, Youth issues, Youth voices

Welcome to Inuit Youth Voices, our special section just for Inuit youth. The issue of child and youth rights has been highlighted through many recent federal initiatives, such as the National Children's Agenda and the 1999 Canadian Report Card dealing with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Canada is now bound to protect and enhance Aboriginal's children's language, culture and traditions, as well as their right to superior education and health services. Since 1984, Pauktuutit has been committed to upholding the human rights of Inuit children and youth by strengthening the role that families and communities play in a child's well-being and development. Pauktuutit firmly believes that issues of child poverty, abuse, education and welfare are directly related to the role and status of Inuit women.  Pauktuutit has developed an extensive track record in this area through our work on substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, health, Inuit child care, housing and family violence. (If you would like more information on any of these topics, please return to our home page.)
