Elections

Any Inuk woman can nominate or be nominated for a position on the Pauktuutit Board of Directors. Nomination forms are available from local hamlet offices, on the Pauktuutit website at www.pauktuutit.ca, or by calling 1-800-667-0749. The deadline for nominations to be received at the Pauktuutit office is March 12, 2009.

President
Nominations are being solicited for the position of President of the Board of Directors. There are no residency requirements for this position, but nominators and nominees must be over the age of 18.

Regional Directors
Nominations are being solicited for the following regional Directors. Nominators and nominees must be a resident of one of the communities in their region, and must be over the age of 18.

Nunatsiavut: Nain, Hopedale, Postville, Makkovik, Rigolet and Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Qikiqtani South: Kingait, Kimmirut, Iqaluit, Pangnirtung, Qikiqtarjuaq, Clyde River and Sanikiluaq

Kivalliq: Arviat, Whale Cover, Rankin Inlet, Chesterfield Inlet, Baker Lake, Coral Harbour and Repulse Bay

Kitikmeot: Kuugaaruk, Taloyoak, Gjoa Haven, Cambridge Bay, Bathurst Inlet, Kugluktuk, Umingmaktok

Woman of the Year

Each year Pauktuutit honours a Woman of the Year in recognition of her contribution to her community, the Arctic, or to Canada and the world. Any Inuk woman may nominate any other Inuk woman for the 2009 Woman of the Year award. There are no residency requirements for nominators or nominees.

25th Anniversary Celebrations

April 1, 2009 marks an important event in the history of Inuit in Canada. Twenty-five years ago, an organization was created that would have a profound effect upon the development of modern Inuit society. Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada has grown from modest origins to become a widely respected organization that has achieved remarkable success in its contributions to improving the lives of Inuit women, their families and communities.

Plans are underway to celebrate this important milestone in conjunction with the 2009 Annual General Meeting. Events will be publicized as details are confirmed.
