Sivumuapallianiq IV is a one-year project that is part of the National Inuit Residential Schools Healing Strategy. This involves a strong partnership with the Terry Fox Canadian Youth Centre where Canadians age 14-17 will take part in a week long program of learning, dialogue and knowledge exchange about the Inuit Residential Schools Legacy. This project is funded by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development (AANDC).

Piqqusivut is a two-year national Inuit residential schools commemorative initiative. This project involves a three-part creative and commemorative process. In one, communities will be invited to create a commemorative piece of art (sewing, painting, clothing, etc.). The second part involves producing a documentary film that follows the various processes and projects from some of the communities. Although each community will house their finished product, the third piece is an online legacy that holds the ‘virtual quilt’ of all the participating communities. This project is funded by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Residential Schools

Residential schools were boarding schools for Inuit, Métis and First Nations children between the 1860s and 1980s. In total 80,000 Aboriginal people are believed to have attended residential schools. For many people residential schools are synonymous with hardship and the erosion of Inuit culture, language and traditional ways of life.
